The Nari Kala Mandir Training Centre, Lucknow, continues its dedicated mission to empower women through vocational education and skill-based training. For several years, the centre has been conducting one-year and two-year courses in Tailoring and Allied Crafts, funded by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Uttar Pradesh.
These courses are designed to equip women with practical, income-generating skills that promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship. Upon successful completion, participants are awarded certificates and diplomas, opening pathways to sustainable livelihoods and financial independence.
During the academic year 2024–25, a total of 51 students were enrolled. In the previous session, 31 trainees appeared for the final examination, achieving an outstanding 100% pass rate — a testament to their hard work and the centre’s commitment to quality training and empowerment.

Project Unnati: Building Pathways to Livelihood
Under the banner of Nari Kala Mandir, Project Unnati has been a flagship initiative of Nari Sewa Samiti since 2015, sponsored by Bajaj Auto Ltd.. This employment-linked Skill Development Program aims to create sustainable livelihoods by equipping women with market-driven skills and fostering financial independence.
The third phase of Project Unnati commenced on October 10, 2024, and will continue until September 30, 2026. Supported by Bajaj Auto Ltd., this phase is designed to train over 1000 women and girls annually in trades that align with local and national employment opportunities.
During the 2024–25 session, 1,097 students were successfully trained across key trades:
- Computer Training: 296 students
- Beauty Culture: 429 students
- Fashion Designing: 300 students
- Hand Embroidery: 72 students
Out of these, 144 students secured placements with partner organizations such as Dial 112, Jai Durga Associates, Zaar Marketing, and Bisani Brothers, while 953 women have become successfully self-employed — sustaining themselves with confidence and skill.
Highlights and Impact
- Infrastructure Support: The Bank of Baroda team donated wall-mounted fans, improving comfort and facilities for students and staff.
- Financial Inclusion: Bank of Baroda also organized an account-opening drive to promote financial awareness and empower women in managing their earnings.
- Environmental Awareness: The Lucknow Swachhata Abhiyaan (LSA) team conducted workshops on waste segregation and the dangers of plastic, under the campaign “Say No to Plastic.”
- Recognition of Excellence: Five outstanding trainees from the Beauty Culture course were awarded professional beauty kits to support their entrepreneurial journey.
- Skill Enhancement: Personality Development and Soft Skill sessions were conducted across all trades to strengthen employability and communication.
- Certificate Distribution: A formal ceremony was held to honor and distribute certificates to 300 graduates of the program.
Project Unnati stands as a shining example of partnership between social organizations and industry leaders — bridging skill, opportunity, and empowerment. Through training, mentorship, and livelihood support, it continues to transform the lives of women, helping them rise as confident contributors to society and the economy.
